For the first time since 1989, a Saunemin VB team will be playing for a State Championship following Saturday's 2 exciting matches at Divernon in the IESA 7A State VB Tournament.

On Saturday, the Eagles knocked off Jacksonville Our Saviour, 25-20, 25-21, setting up the semi-final against previously undefeated Cissna Park.  After an opening, 25-23, win in the first set, Cissna Park took control in the 2nd set, winning, 18-25.  Saunemin opened up a lead in the 3rd set until CP battled back to tie the match at 22-22.  Each team traded 2 serves to make the score 24-24.  The Eagles won the next 2 points giving them a 26-24 win and berth in the state title match.

The Eagles, now 23-1, will take on Hartsburg-Emden, at 6:45, at Auburn Jr. High in Divernon.  More information in regards to Tuesday's trip will be announced by school officials on Monday morning.

In 1989, Saunemin defeated Washington Pleasant View in the quarterfinals, 15-10, 10-15, 15-9, and then knocked off Newman, 15-5, 15-9, before falling the title match to Beason, 1-15, 2-15.
