Eagles to Become Member of Vermilion Conference in 2011-2012

May 22, 2010

Saunemin and Flanagan became the 13th & 14th members of the Vermilion Conference following a vote of conference members at their spring meeting on May 19th.  Conference Administrator Dan Mulinazzi of Grand Ridge informed both schools on the 20th that they would become full members beginning in the 2011-2012 school year.

The conference is broken up into 2 divisions....North (Marseilles, Milton Pope, Waltham, Oglesby-Washington, Ottawa Wallace, Tonica & Grand Ridge) and South (Woodland, Ransom, St. Anthony, Odell, Cornell, Flanagan & Saunemin).  Each school will begin participating against each other beginning in 11-12 in baseball, basketball and volleyball.

There were a number of reasons to seek membership in the conference including travel, built in schedules, similar size school opponents, and conference tournaments.  All schools in the South division already appeared on many of the Eagles schedules which helped in the decision.
